CANVAS Hotel Dallas Reveals A Top-To-Bottom Renovation
DALLAS—CANVAS Hotel Dallas is excited to announce the completion of the property’s extensive renovation. Located in the blossoming neighborhood of Dallas’ Cedars District, this art-centric hotel serves as a home base for travelers and an artistic respite for locals. The final phase of the design overhaul, led by Dallas’ own Studio 11 Design, sets out to create an experience focused on local culture, community and art, and to enhance the overall guest experience by unveiling newly remodeled guest rooms, a refreshed Gallery Rooftop Lounge, meeting space and an upgraded lobby. The hotel is managed by Evolution Hospitality and was developed, and is co-owned, by Matthews Southwest.
All 76 loft-style guest rooms have been renovated to paint a picture that is unique to Dallas, from exposing the building’s underlying and original elements, to showcasing local works of art. Original historic character shines throughout the hotel, particularly with the help of the exposed brick walls in each guest room. To complement the raw brick material, the accommodations feature tonal colors to optimize natural lighting and offer an airy feeling for guests. With the addition of concrete floors, the rooms offer modern lines and suggest a blank canvas meant to inspire guests. The spacious rooms also feature 12ft ceilings and amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi and chrome casting capabilities on guest room televisions. Each room, unique in its own way, is infused with local artwork by Dallas artists including Corey Godfrey, Ginger Fox, and more. The art through the property has been curated by local art consultancy SemosMauldin and Lou Verne, Studio 11 Design’s art, curation, and styling vertical. All works showcased in the guest rooms are available as limited edition fine art prints for purchase.
The property’s Gallery Rooftop Lounge offers chef-centric food, handcrafted cocktails, and sweeping vistas of the South Dallas skyline. The overall refresh of the rooftop and pool area evokes the same sense of community seen throughout Dallas, with intimate decorative lighting, carefully arranged clustered seating, layered rugs, and colorful tones throughout. Many of the elements used throughout the rooftop utilize original and repurposed components, such as the wood planks on the façade of the bar to maintain a sense of place. The new outdoor furniture brings the space to life, creating areas that are perfect for small group use and large parties alike. The lounge will also serve as a gallery space where the property will feature rotating art exhibits. Starting July 1, the gallery space will feature the work of Ann Chisolm, a Dallas area mixed-media artist, in an ongoing exhibit curated by SemosMauldin.
The design changes to the hotel are tied together by the revamped entrance and lobby area, both intended to offer visitors a warm welcome to Dallas with styling by Lou Verne. With the addition of shuffleboard and a pool table, the lobby serves as a friendly and inviting entrance to the hotel. The lobby’s artwork creates a multi-colored gallery experience for guests and visitors to enjoy local art handpicked by SemosMauldin. These changes to the public spaces by Studio 11 Design establish the hotel as a social hub for locals and a creative respite for guests. The CANVAS not only offers excitement on-property, but also helps guests explore the local community with their CANVAS Collective partnership. The property has worked with local businesses in their neighborhood to create the collective, offering guests of the hotel special offerings as they enjoy downtown Dallas. The property also offers several creative package offerings, including a Perfect Pair for couples on their proposal night and the Curator’s Package which includes an art consultation from SemosMauldin’s expert team.
